Britain’s only Sailing Club of Jewish Affinity and Friendship cruised through its AGM and 20th Anniversary Laying Up Dinner in great style last week with an attendance of 90 past and present members, including 3 of the original founders and a 4- week old baby! .
Nanae & Phil were delighted to cross the Fastnet Race finishing line after Just over 123 hours and 695 miles of sailing. You can read about their race in more detail on the Space Race website.
Shemesh means Sunshine in Hebrew, and when Frank and Carole arrived finally in Israel some 5 years and 3 months after they left Chatham in 2004, that's exactly what they found… loads and loads of it.
Having started out the Odyssey in July 2004, Frank and Carole sailed over 7,000 miles and stopped in tens and tens and tens of interesting ports through out the Med.
Happily, and by good fortune and timing, Rear Commodore Sandy and husband Avi were in Israel when the call came through that Shemesh had finally made landfall. They got over to see them at the earliest opportunity and with great hugs and back slapping we were able to take the valedictory photos you see here.
Many, many congratulations Frank and Carole; you have realized your dream.

CROATIA 2009 Twelve sailors, trusty and true from the High Seas Sailing Club set out from the Marina in Dubrovnik to experience the Adriatic and the friendly natives. For the first 48 hours the winds blew virtually unceasingly and when they did in fact stop for a couple of hours, we thought that was that. 
Not so! They picked up again so much that mooring or anchoring in a safe place was really quite difficult. There are not that many sheltered bays several miles out from Dubrovnik. Continue reading

A huge “well-done” and many congratulations to Phil and Nanae who aboard Space Race, completed the Fastnet course today, (Friday 14th August 2009) in a corrected time of 5 days 09 hrs 54 minutes and 41 seconds. They were placed 49th out of 81 in class IRC 2, and in the sub class IRC 2A, placed 15th out of 30.
This is an outstanding tour de force by our 2 members, and a magnificent job of co-skippering on Phil’s behalf. We are very, very proud of you both.
I am certain all our members and friends would like to join me in wishing two of our eminent sailors all the very best of British and Swiss luck as they prepare to take part in the challenging Rolex Fastnet race which will start from the famous Royal Yacht Squadron in front of West Cowes at 12.00 BST on Sunday 9th August. Osborne Bay on a beautiful sunny day with a light SSW wind. The 2009 rally contenders were cruising the start line. Ariam, Blue Lady, Sea Dream of Hamble, Spirit of Fairfax and Wylde Oyster were all there. Celestra, Glissando and Ulysses we missed having you with us this year. 
5 minutes to go, 2 minutes to go. A blast of the start horn from FastnetPhil aboard Blue Lady. Sea Dream of Hamble and Wylde Oyster timed their start to perfection, Ariam and Spirit of Fairfax’s watches were obviously incorrect and were far enough over the line to deserve a ‘penalty 360 degree turn’!
Sailing Captain Gill, along with FastnetPhil, aboard the deliberately over-rated and aptly named Blue Lady, were not surprisingly lagging behind – SC Gill was to be seen heading away from the line during the crucial pre-start 2 minutes, pour encourager les autres of course!
